The host nation West Indies have added Kyle Mayers in the squad in place of Brandon King. King reportedly suffered a side strain during their Super 8 game against England.

King scored 23 runs in the game against England and was retired out and also did not field in the second innings. West Indies have 2 more Super 8 games remaining and all of the games are a must win for them.

Kyle Mayers has played 37 T20Is for West Indies and has an impressive strike rate of 140.62. Mayers is also a handy bowler and can chip in a few overs with the ball as well. Shai Hope had opened the innings for the team in the absence of King in their last game against USA and is expected to play at top for the remaining two games as well.

It is important that a replacement for any team in the tournament gets approved by the ICC Event Technical Committee for this World Cup.

  • The members of the committee are as follows:
  • Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket)
  • Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events)
  • Johnny Grave (CEO, Cricket West Indies)
  • Kass Naidoo (Independent Representative).

West Indies will now face South Africa, who are yet to face a defeat in the tournament on 23rd June, Sunday.

Here is an updated squad of West Indies for the remainder of the T20 World Cup 2024.
